If you ever find yourself in a battle with the NCAA over a student-athletes eligibility to play, the chances of winning are usually slim to NONE! It may not be that you don’t have a good argument, but more likely that you don’t know your LEGAL options or have the expertise to defend your student-athlete.
Two years ago I met two young lawyers from the DC area who had previously worked at the NCAA and had been a big part of many of their policy decisions regarding rules and eligibility. After seeing the lack of knowledge that athletic directors, counselors and parents had regarding the legal issues of “Eligibility” they decided to start a consulting business to help schools and families that found themselves in a battle they had no idea how to fight.
The Student Athlete Consulting Group can help you through such a nightmare and provide you the kind of knowledge and support you will need.
I recently received a call from one of my District Athletic Director friends in the Midwest who had a son that was in his freshman year of college and several days away from starting football camp. He received a call from the college saying that his son would not be able to participate in practice because he had not been “CLEARED” by the eligibility center. My friend knew that all of his son’s academics had been in order and that this was simply a mistake on the part of the NCAA. And it was, but proving that to the NCAA turned out to be difficult. That’s when he called me and asked for my help. I was traveling at the time but remembered my encounter with SACG. I called the SACG, they immediately called the NCAA and spoke with staffers they knew personally, pointed out the mistake the NCAA was making, and the next morning I got a call from my AD friend who told me his son had been cleared to practice. He couldn’t thank me enough and I explained it was the SACG that should get all the credit.
This story had a happy ending and only took a few hours to resolve. But can you imagine if it was YOU trying to convince the NCAA that they were making a mistake over your student-athletes eligibility? The SACG said resolving the issue simply took a phone call and a few minutes of their time and it wouldn’t be right to charge anything. How about that for always “doing the right thing”!
I hope you never need their help but if you do you’ll be glad I posted their story and information on our website. Their help would be INVALUABLE!
